Fall Favorites

I have always been a warm weather girl. I grew up at the beach in central Florida and I love a good water day with lots of sun and lots of water. But over the years, I’ve also come to fully appreciate a North Carolina autumn. Here are some of my favorite fall things.

1.) Butternut Squash Soup

My favorite is this one from Cookie and Kate. When you make it, don’t sub the shallot out! (Shallots are amazing. Do you agree?) And don’t forget to make a grilled cheese on country bread to eat with it!

2.) Celebrations

November is full of celebration in my household. It’s the month we celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday, as well as my husband’s birthday, my birthday, and one of our son’s birthdays. We usually just eat a favorite meal and a dessert of choice and give gifts on birthdays. For the past couple of years, my husband and son have requested pineapple upside down cake. I always pull out The Joy of Cooking cookbook for this recipe, and I make sure to use the Dole Deluxe Gold canned sliced pineapple. And sometimes my husband even makes his own maraschino cherries! (I don’t know what recipe he uses, but they are super yummy!)

3.) Fall Leaves

Also acorns and pinecones. I can’t resist picking them up and setting them around my house in vases and on the table as very easy, very pretty décor. Gathering them always begins with a nice fall walk in the woods.

4.) Fall Crafts

I keep a basket of easy crafts in my living room. For a long time, it’s held embroidery supplies. I love to pull these out when the sky gets dark and my family is watching sports. I’ve been working on these pumpkins for quite a while. At this point they may last until next year.

Now, I’d love to know, what are your favorite fall things to do?
